I completed the slides based on the first half of the chapter and there are several important aspects that can be summarized. One of the major themes was the changes in the standards of privacy. As consumers in the 21st century, we are less careful, or less knowledgeable, of the risk inherent in using technology. We are also less inclined to question the limits of privacy if the convenience outweighs the cost of this invasion of our personal data. Though the data being collected about consumers will change the way we view technology in the future, we should be careful to recognize what we give up for the cost of convenience. Sara Baase may have written A Gift of Fire to better prepare consumers for the future of technologies, but also as a warning to inform of the dangers inherent in technologies.
