Enzyme peels use natural fruit-derived enzymes (like papain from papaya and bromelain from pineapple) to gently dissolve dead skin cells and keratin. Procedure of chemical peels

1. Preparation (Pre-Peel) Discontinue retinoids. Stop using products with retinol or tretinoin at least 5–7 days prior. Spot test: Apply the peel to a small, hidden area of skin (like behind the ear) to check for adverse reactions. Cleanse: Wash the face to remove makeup, dirt, and excess oils

2. Degreasing the skin is wiped with an alcohol or witch hazel-based solution. This strips residual surface oils so the peeling agent can penetrate the skin evenly

3. ⁠Barrier protection petroleum jelly (Vaseline) is applied to delicate, sensitive areas where chemicals can pool and burn—such as the corners of the nose, corners of the mouth, eyelids, and under-eye hollows

4. Acid Application the chemical solution (e.g., glycolic, salicylic, or lactic acid) is brushed smoothly onto the skin in a thin layer. Sensation: A mild stinging, warmth, or tingling is normal and expected

5. Neutralization & Soothing neutralizer: For many peels, a neutralizing solution is applied to stop the acid from working. (Some self-neutralizing peels are simply left to process for a set time and washed off with water). Soothing: The face is rinsed, and cooling compresses or calming serums are applied to reduce inflammation

6. Post-Peel Recovery & Sun Care Avoid sun: Skin is highly photosensitive; strictly avoid sun exposure and extreme heat for at least 7–14 days. Hydrate: Use gentle, non-comedogenic moisturizers to manage peeling skin. Sunscreen: Apply a physical sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher, ideally with zinc oxide) daily.
