The Los Angeles Workshop on Representations and Geometry

mentored by David Ben-Zvi, Yiannis Sakellaridis, and Akshay Venkatesh

June 10-14 2024, University of Southern California

About

LAWRGe (/lärj/) is an annual workshop which brings together graduate students and postdocs interested in representation theory, geometry, and related subjects. Each workshop focuses on a specific topic and is mentored by a group of experts on it.  The workshops take place at the University of Southern California, and are funded by NSF CAREER grant DMS-2143922.

2024 Topic: Relative Langlands Duality

This workshop will be an introduction to the relative Langlands duality formulated in the mentors' recent preprint. In number theory, this duality seeks to explain the connection between period integrals of automorphic forms and L-functions. In mathematical physics, it takes the form of electric-magnetic duality of boundary conditions in supersymmetric 4d gauge theory. The intermediary between the two is a duality between Hamiltonian actions of Langlands dual groups, a relative form of the geometric Langlands correspondence.

Application

A primary goal of LAWRGe is to foster collaboration among young researchers with a diverse range of interests and backgrounds. As such, we encourage applications from all institutions and all levels of graduate education and postdoctoral development. Since space is limited, anyone interested in attending (even locals) must apply on the application page linked above. We can only guarantee that non-local applications received before 3/31/24 will be considered, and earlier applications are encouraged. In reviewing applications, we will be trying to assess how much each applicant would benefit from the workshop. All participants within commuting distance are welcome to attend, though you must still submit an application so that we know to expect you (earlier applications are still encouraged).

Funding

All non-local participants will have accommodations fully funded, but only limited travel funding is available. If you would like to be considered for travel support, please indicate this in the application.  We strongly encourage participants to use other travel funds if possible --- we generally are able to accept all applicants with their own travel funding, but only a limited number of requests for travel support.  Accommodations will be limited to students visiting from outside Los Angeles, but local participants are welcome and encouraged to attend (on-site parking permits will be available).
