광주과학기술원(GIST) 인공지능 법정책 연구실(AI Law and Policy Laboratory)은 (1) 인공지능 기술의 진흥 및 규제를 위한 법정책 수립, (2) 보다 나은 법정책을 도출하기 위한 인공지능 기술의 활용 방안을 연구하는 곳입니다. 우리의 연구 주제는 신뢰할 수 있고 안전한 인공지능 거버넌스, 이를 구현하기 위한 인공지능 정렬 기술, 자연어 처리 및 대규모 언어모형을 활용한 법률 인공지능 등을 중심으로 하되, 이에 그치지 않고 다양한 융합연구를 수행하고 있습니다. 인공지능이 만들어갈 새로운 세상의 중심으로 나아가기를 희망하는 모든 이들에게 우리 연구실의 문은 활짝 열려 있습니다.

All products and services used by humans today are closely connected to the legal frameworks that support and govern them. Currently, many countries are implementing legal policies to strengthen the competitiveness and social acceptance of AI, including both promotional measures that build human and physical infrastructure and regulatory measures designed to prevent and address emerging social issues. Korea’s AI industry can thrive only when it is grounded in legal and policy research that takes into account both international trends and Korea’s unique institutional and social characteristics. On the other hand, AI is increasingly replacing or augmenting human decision-making across a wide range of fields. For humans, whose cognitive characteristics differ fundamentally from those of AI, this development may create new uncertainties, but it also presents opportunities to address complex problems that have previously been difficult to solve. Therefore, we aim to explore methodologies for leveraging AI technologies to enhance legal systems and improve the processes through which policy issues are identified, analyzed, and resolved.
