Development of solar panels
Portugal has contributed in several ways to SDG 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy, which seeks to ensure access to sustainable, reliable, modern and affordable energy for all. I will highlight some important points of Portugal's performance in this objective:
1. Renewable Energy Sources:
Portugal has stood out in the use of renewable energy. At various times, the country has managed to supply almost 100% of its electricity with renewable sources during specific periods.
.
2. Decarbonization of the Energy Sector:
Portugal has an ambitious decarbonization plan:
It has closed all its coal-fired power plants (the last one was closed in 2022).
3. Investments in Solar Energy:
Incentives and auctions to promote photovoltaic solar energy projects, which have attracted national and foreign investment.
In France, the energy transition towards cleaner energy is well underway. The country uses various sources of clean energy, primarily low-carbon. Here’s an overview of the main clean energy sources used:
Onshore wind is highly developed, especially in the north and west of the country.
Offshore wind is growing rapidly, with the first offshore wind farms recently installed
France is increasingly developing solar farms, especially in the southern regions, with steady annual growth.
Photovoltaic rooftops (homes, industrial buildings) are encouraged through financial incentives (self-consumption bonuses, feed-in tariffs).
Traditionally very present, particularly in the Alps and Pyrenees.
Hydropower still represents around 10 to 12% of the country’s electricity production.
