The wildlife tend to be more active before the afternoon sun; but varied weather conditions and the extremely diverse topography of the Wildlife Loop keep both visitors and creatures alike on their toes 24-7. After all, it's the bison's Park, and all animals are wild and free-roaming.
We have tried to ensure that our facilities offer you the most comfortable and enjoyable surroundings for your trip. All of the facilities at the park have been designed to ensure that your visit is safe. However, please remember a few things when you visit the park to ensure that the trip gives you the best benefits.
Since the park was taken over by its current owners in February 2008 a lot of work went in to ensuring that we make the park as accessible as possible to wheelchair users and people who are not able to walk long distances. There are numerous benches around the park to help break up the walk, and we are planning on putting more benches in all the time.
Some of the paths in the park are compacted gravel / road stone and as such not solid tarmac, meaning that in some areas and during some weather conditions, the paths may be a little bit bumpy. The vast majority of the park however has tarmac paths, and as such you can get around the entire park including areas such as the big cats, dinosaurs, play areas, restaurants, tropical house, reptile house and more without leaving a solid tarmac path. Areas such as the Tigers and play area are also only accessible up a very gentle slope. We try to keep the paths in as good an order as possible for wheel chair users, however in some areas pushing a wheel chair may be a little harder work than on a smooth surface.
This is another completely free area to use once you have entered the park and there is no time limit or need to pre-book. For the safety of everyone using this area we have a number of rules which must be adhered to so please make sure you read these here before your arrival.
To take part it costs just 4 for members or 6 for non-members after entering the park. Members must bring their membership card with them to receive the discount as we cannot check the systems in this area.
You can find it located next door to our Education Centre not far from the entrance. In here you will find items seized by customs and donated to the park to help educate our visitors as well as those given by private collectors and even items from our own park (such as feathers and quills which have naturally dropped).
However, most excitingly this area is home to our vital white-clawed crayfish conservation project (to find out more about why this project is so important please click here). Here at the park we raise young crayfish until they are large enough to be released into the wild. Upon their release we return with more newly hatched, captive born individuals and care for them until they too are also ready for release. This is a process that takes roughly a year.
Whilst you are at the park there are opportunities to purchase food to feed to the animals yourself too. There are feeding stations around the park for animals such as our fish and goats and you can purchase food for our meerkats in reception as you enter the park too.
Our go-karts are located near our indoor play area and are another very popular addition to the park for families with young children. Take to our track with your little ones for just 1.50 and see how many laps you can do!

From breeding endangered animals and raising money for conservation organizations, to educating the public about wild animals and their preservation, zoos have an essential role to play in animal conservation efforts.
Tanganyika is home to one of the largest herds of giraffes, and to date, 84 babies have been born at the park. This is more than all but one other zoo in the United States. Not only does Tanganyika work to preserve the species by ensuring a healthy population in human care, but we also work with conservation organizations like GCF to raise funds for projects like Operation Twiga.
You can make a difference at your local Wichita wildlife park. Paying a visit to the park is an immense help, but there is so much more you could do. For example, in 2022, everyone helped raise $3,000 for the Giraffe Conservation Foundation during their annual Giraffe Weekend. This weekend was full of giraffe-themed activities and handmade merchandise that was donated to raise money.
At this Wichita wildlife park, you can feed anything from a rabbit to a rhino. Our most popular is our Ring-Tailed Lemur feeding. National wildlife refuges offer us a chance to unplug from the stresses of daily life and reconnect with our natural surroundings. The refuge is open 365 days a year from sunrise to sunset. There is something for everyone, with over 60 miles of hiking and biking trails. Maps and a self-pay station are located on the right-hand side of the visitor center door. We have five bird feeding stations and four water features around the visitor center. These visitor center trails are ADA, and at 0.8 of a mile, with plenty of bird viewing areas, these trails are a birders must! Once you get your birding in, take a beautiful scenic bike ride around our 14.2-mile loop Steve Thompson Wildlife Drive (STWD). The only driving trail is Lakeside Dr. This trail will take you to Osprey overlook; Osprey overlook overlooks our 3,500-acre freshwater lake named after the refuge. There are multiple trailheads near this location, Gator pond, Scum pond, and County Trail. One of our most popular hikes is going south on gator pond, turning east on mud trail, and then north on scum pond; this short 3-mile hike is excellent for every outdoor enthusiast.
