Student Research Info
Useful Background for Interested Students
Undergraduate students interested in working with me on a research project should have:
a differential equations course (Wentworth's MATH 2500 or MATH 2750, or equivalent)
MATLAB and/or Python:Â
previous usage, or readiness to learn the basics with directed resources
significant coding experience is NOT expected -- we will focus on using built-in functions
You may additionally want to explore:
a linear algebra course (Wentworth's MATH 2860, or equivalent)
a dynamical systems course (Wentworth's MATH 4950, Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos by Steven Strogatz)
Specific projects will depend on individual students' background, strengths, and interests.
I am not able to support graduate students in research at this time.
Previous Student Research
Kalsang Sherpa '20
Trinity College Summer Research Program 2018
Studied the frequency and entrainment susceptibility of delayed oscillators with different mixes of delay and instantaneous terms.
Outstanding Poster in the MAA Student Poster Session at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in Baltimore, MD (Jan 18, 2019)!
Benjamin Liske '20
Trinity College Summer Research Program 2019
Studied the harmonic content of the audio caused by the feedback loop between an electric guitar and amplifier, as impacted by pickup and tone settings.
Daniel Melesse '20
Trinity College Summer Research Program 2019
Studied the use of machine learning to classify time series of a delay oscillator between different discrete values of the delay.
