[2007–08] PSTL Study of an Ontology-based Underwater Cutting System - Science and Technological Park of Liguria. The project, involving industries and research institutions, has been related to the study of innovative methods for the optimization of the existing underwater cutting systems using ad-hoc process ontologies and 3D simulation tools. Roles: promoter, co-author of the proposal, project manager, principal investigator.
[2004–07] AIM@SHAPE European NoE. The Mission of AIM@SHAPE has been to foster the development of new methodologies for modeling and processing the knowledge related to digital shapes, bridging knowledge management and shape modeling. Within AIM@SHAPE a network industrial group and a network research group, both at international level have been settled up. Roles: investigator, task leader, project co-manager.
[2006–09] SHALOM “SHApe modeLing and reasOning: new Methods and tools”, FIRB Project, International cooperation Italy/Israel. The objective of the project is to study innovative methods for the analysis and the synthesis of digital geometric shapes. The main contribution is on multi-resolution representations of geometric shapes, on geometrical invariant feature extraction (topological features), and on the definition of multi-resolution topological models. Roles: investigator.
[2007] MIUR-PRIN project on Multiresolution modeling. The project has been related to the study and implementation of Multi-resolution modeling techniques for scalar fields and digital shapes Role: investigator.
[2000–03] ARROV Augmented Reality for Remotely Operated Vehicles based on 3D acoustical and optical sensors for underwater inspection and survey. European Project (FP-5). The project, involving industries and research institutions, goal has been to improve the applicability and performance of multifunctional Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV) for the inspection, monitoring and survey of underwater environments and manmade installations. Goal achieved by developing a novel integrated sensorial system, which exploits both optical and acoustical data to provide the ROV pilot with an augmented representation of the scene (augmented reality). Role: investigator
[2000] FIORES/II - Character Preservation and Modelling in Aesthetic and Engineering Design. European Project (FP-5). The objective of the project, involving industries and research institutions, has been to implement a software prototype that provides new powerful features. In particular the research has been focused on comparing the aesthetic properties of a given CA design to existing CA models, finding out whether there are similar properties and finding areas in which the aesthetic character fits to the proposed one as to the corporate identity of the company’s product lines. Role: investigator
[1998–99] FIORES, Formalisation and Integration of an Optimised Reverse Engineering Styling Workflow. Funded by the European Commission working in the field of Computer Aided Aesthetic Design. The objective of the project, involving industries and research institutions, has been to define criteria for the "harmonic" appearance of shapes and then to use these criteria for the intuitive design of high quality surfaces. Role: investigator.
