With a master degree (cum laude) in Computer Science at the University of Catania in 1998 and a thesis on Computational Geometry developed at the CS Department at Stanford University (USA), in 2004 I got my Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Genova on topic related to multi-sensors data fusion.
Over the last 20 years, I have been collaborating with different international research institutions and universities in different successful research national EU and international projects dealing with Semantic Web, Open Data, and the visualization, modeling and structuring of complex digital data.
Since in the Metropolitan City of Genova, I also cover the role of Data Specialist, Solutions&Innovation Architect and, in this role, I am responsible of the design and development of innovation projects related to public Open Data transparency and structuring.
Since 2005, I am an adjunct researcher at the Institute for Data Exploration & Applications at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (USA) within the group led by Prof. James Hendler. Since 2014, I have been involved as invited external expert in the European Community for the evaluation of project proposals and for reviewing ongoing funded projects.
Interests: Semantic Web, Knowledge Modeling, Linked Data, Similarity, Human-Computer Interaction, E-learning, Digital Content Semantic Structuring and Annotation, Visual Computing.
