I am an Assistant Professor in the Mathematics & Computer Science Department at Providence College. My research interests involve the intersection of algebraic topology and category theory with mathematical physics. I'm specifically interested in higher symmetries in field theories.
I received my PhD in May 2020 from the University of Notre Dame, under the direction of Stephan Stolz. My dissertation looked at equivariant factorization algebras from a higher category approach. I received a BA in Mathematics and Humanities from Providence College, and am thrilled to be back at my alma mater.

I am currently the PI for an NSF LEAPS (Launching Early-Career Academic Pathways) grant, "Quantum Field Theories and Elliptic Cohomology," 2023-2025.
I am also co-PI for an NSF conference grant: "New England Algebraic Topology & Mathematical Physics Seminar," which funds bi-annual weekend conferences. For more details about past iterations of the seminar, see: https://brianrwilliams.github.io/neatmaps/fall2024.html.
