Laundry Timer
Last updated: 31 October 2026
Laundry Timer ("the app") is developed by Ed Hesketh ("I", "me"). The app is free to use, with optional paid upgrades. This policy explains what information the app uses, what leaves your device, and why.
Your settings, timers and drying history are stored on your device.
Your location is sent to my servers only to fetch your local weather forecast. It is not stored.
If you answer the optional "Were your fabrics dry?" question when stopping a timer, your answer is shared anonymously to improve drying predictions. You can turn this off.
The free version shows ads from Google AdMob, which may use device identifiers, subject to your consent where required.
Purchases are handled by Apple or Google and managed through RevenueCat.
Your settings, location choice, timers, calibration and the answers you give to the drying question are stored on your device and stay there, except as described below. Deleting the app deletes this data.
The app needs your approximate location to show the weather forecast and estimate drying times. You can let the app use your device's location, or search for a place by name.
Weather forecast: your location coordinates are sent to my server, which fetches the forecast and returns it to the app. The location is used only to provide the forecast and is not stored.
Place search: if you search for a location, the text you type is sent to my server to find matching places.
Sharing: if you share a drying estimate, your coordinates are used to look up the name of your area for the shared message.
You can turn off location access at any time in your device settings and choose a location manually instead.
When you stop a timer, the app may ask how dry your laundry was. Answering is optional. Your answer adjusts the drying estimates on your device. If Share Drying Feedback is turned on (the default), your answer is also sent to my server, together with:
the estimated and actual drying time, and the fabric type asked about
the forecast weather used for the estimate, by hour
your drying settings (spin speed, shade and calibration)
an approximate location, rounded to about 50 km, and the start time rounded to the hour
No name, account, device identifier or precise location is included, and answers cannot be linked to you or to each other. The data is used only to improve the accuracy of drying predictions for all users, and is kept for up to 5 years.
You can turn this off at any time in Settings → Share Drying Feedback. Answers are only ever sent if you choose to answer the question.
The free version of the app shows ads provided by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and use information such as your device's advertising identifier, IP address and approximate location to show and measure ads.
In the UK, EEA and Switzerland, you are asked for consent before personalised ads are shown. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → GDPR Settings.
On iOS, the app asks permission before using your device's advertising identifier, and you can change this in your device's privacy settings.
Upgrading removes ads. See Google's privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). I do not receive your payment details. Purchase status is managed through RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous app user identifier and your purchase history to unlock paid features. See RevenueCat's privacy policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy
Timer notifications are scheduled on your device. No notification data is sent to me.
The app does not include its own crash reporting. Apple and Google may share anonymous crash and performance reports with me if you have agreed to this in your device settings.
My servers run on Cloudflare, which processes the requests described above on my behalf. Other providers are listed in the sections above. These providers may process data in countries outside your own, including the United States, under appropriate safeguards.
Location and weather: necessary to provide the service you request.
Anonymous drying feedback: my legitimate interest in improving prediction accuracy, with minimal data and an opt-out.
Personalised advertising: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Purchases: necessary to provide the features you have paid for.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict its use, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Because drying feedback is anonymous, I cannot identify or delete individual answers. To exercise your rights over data held by Google or RevenueCat, please use their own privacy tools or contact them.
I use reasonable measures to protect information sent to my servers, including encrypted connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
The app is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact me and I will delete it.
The app may link to other websites. I am not responsible for their content or privacy practices.
I may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Significant changes may also be noted in the app.
