Quito is a relatively large capital with heave traffic (~3 million inhabitants). We do not want you to waste your time in that traffic. In addition, as in any other Latin American large city, you have to behave "streetwise" (watch out for pickpockets and so on).

We recommend to stay nearby the University. The map below indicates different zones, we strongly recommend to choose your stay in the GREEN ZONE, where there are plenty of options at different budgets, and also several restaurants, all within walking distances. The orange zone is also OK but it is a bit off the main walking area. We discourage you to choose your stay in the RED zone as it is an area of heavy night life.

Quito has in general a pleasant weather, nevertheless October marks the transition to the rainy season, this means that we should expect variable conditions ranging from 10°C early in the morning and during the night, up to 27°C (dry) at noon, with the possibility of sudden heavy rain in the afternoon.
So don't forget to bring a rain jacket, sunglasses, and a good sweater. Besides, bear in mind that we are located at 2800 m (AMSL), at which some people may experience altitude sickness. The typical quick remedy is to intake sugar, aspirin or paracetamol. But most people do not even notice the effect of the altitude so pls. do not get preconditioned by this advice..
