Scope:
This policy applies to the Latin Dictionary browser extension distributed through Microsoft Edge Add-ons and the Chrome Web Store. The extension is published by Felix Sleddon.
Summary:
Latin Dictionary performs Latin dictionary lookups locally in the browser. It does not send selected or entered text, browsing history, lookup results, personal information or usage data to the developer or to any third party. It contains no advertising, analytics, tracking, user accounts, remote code or paid features.
Data accessed and how it is used:
For extension-store disclosure purposes, text deliberately selected on a webpage is classified as website content. The extension accesses text only when a user:
• copies the same selected text twice on a webpage within the configured time; or
• types or pastes text into the extension's toolbar window and chooses to analyse it.
The text is used only to provide the requested Latin dictionary and morphological analysis. It is compared with dictionary files bundled inside the extension. Requests for those bundled dictionary files remain inside the installed extension and are not internet requests.
Temporary processing and retention:
To recognise a deliberate double-copy, the first copied selection is held temporarily in the webpage's working memory until it is used for a lookup, overwritten by a later copy, or the page closes. Text and lookup results may also remain in memory while a result is being processed or displayed. They are never written to extension storage or disk and are not retained by the developer.
The extension does not read or process text selected in password fields. It does not collect browsing history or monitor general page content, clicks, scrolling or keystrokes.
Preferences stored by the browser:
The extension stores only two preferences using the browser's extension storage:
• whether double-copy lookup is enabled; and
• the chosen double-copy time window.
These preferences contain no selected text, pasted text, lookup results or browsing history. If the user has enabled browser settings synchronisation, the browser provider may synchronise these two preferences as part of that service. The developer does not receive them.
Permissions:
The storage permission is used only for the two preferences described above. Access to webpages, including embedded frames, is used only so the extension can respond to a user's deliberate double-copy of selected Latin text and show the result beside that selection. The extension does not use this access to build a browsing history or transmit page content.
Sharing, selling and third parties:
The developer does not sell, rent, share or transfer user data. Selected or entered text is not disclosed to any person, company, advertising service, analytics provider or other third party. The only possible external handling is the browser provider's optional synchronisation of the two non-content preferences described above, when the user has enabled browser sync.
User choices and access:
Users can disable double-copy lookup or change its time window in the extension toolbar window. They can choose not to type or paste text into the extension and can remove the extension at any time.
The current preference values are visible in the extension toolbar window. Because selected text, entered text and lookup results are not persistently stored, the developer has no copy of that information to provide, correct or delete. Browser-synchronised preferences can be managed through the user's browser and browser-account sync controls.
Changes to this policy:
This policy will be updated if the extension's data practices change. The effective date above will be revised when a material change is published.
