The Last Resort is a standalone small event running from 23-25 January 2026 at Wilderhope Manor, Shropshire, UK.
A loose sequel to A Court of Lies (shortlisted for Small LARP of the Year 2025 at the UK LARP Awards), The Last Resort is a rule-lite, no combat fantasy/mystery event. Like its predecessor, players will arrive on a mysterious demiplane where all is not as it seems, and can choose to try to solve the mystery, be a part of the story, and/or even make their own decisions about how it all ends!
You are welcome to bring your character from any other fantasy LARP system (adapted for our lite rules systems and game mechanics) or bring a completely original character just for the event! You'll be attending via an interplanar portal, so think of this as a LARP holiday... with added mild peril! You absolutely do not need to have attended A Court of Lies to enjoy this event as it's a standalone story on a brand new plane.
Genre-wise, expect fantasy, mystery, spooky (not horror), with a dash of ominous spirituality.
All tickets include catering from Friday dinner to Sunday breakfast.
Player ticket - £125
NPC ticket - £65
A £30 deposit is due upon reserving a ticket. The balance is payable by 30 September 2025.
We are limited to <40 players and NPCs on site, so tickets are strictly limited!
NPCs will be assigned a pre-written character, in which they will be immersed for the whole event, rather than bringing their own character. This will include the expectation to deliver certain plot/encounters in character. We may also call on you for minor crew duties from time to time.
Players can bring any character fitting the setting (more to follow) and will be fully immersed for the whole event - no monstering duties!
Character registration will follow ticket confirmation.
Please pay your deposit asap upon receiving your ticket confirmation email.
Tickets include accommodation in onsite bunk rooms. Bedding is provided.
This will be allocated according to player preference in advance, as far as possible.
Please see here for the venue's access information.
Important: Due to the historic nature of the building, the sleeping areas are only accessible via old, uneven staircases. If this makes sleeping onsite inaccessible for you, please contact us to discuss.
The majority of in-character activities will take place in the main ground floor areas, however, some encounters will take place outside or up/downstairs.
There are toilets on the ground floor, but these are accessed from outside of the building. There are more toilets in the OOC accommodation areas upstairs.
Due to the 17th century nature of the building, stairs and floors may be uneven in places. We are asking participants to bring separate indoor/outdoor footwear to minimise the risk.
Please contact the team if you have any specific access needs or want to discuss any details around access.
Bunk rooms are strictly Out of Character areas at all time, so can be used by participants needing downtime without any threat of IC encounters.
The Last Resort is a low/no combat, rules lite, drama/content heavy weekend of mystery, puzzles, roleplay, and intrigue.
Attend as your existing LARP character or try something new.
The Last Resort is not an actual spa retreat. Sorry.

"I played this game as an NPC but even with all of the outsider knowledge of the plot, I was still surprised to find I was just as much of a player as anyone else. I thoroughly enjoyed this game, and I really hope to see more like it in the future! "
"Perfect setting, plot, and great NPCs given just enough info to inform the plot but not knowing everything themselves, which worked well. Fantastic immersion. It was a really good change to have encouragement of non-combative cooperative play. Plot well thought out and gently steered without being too rigid. A huge amount of prep clearly work went into it by the team."
"It offered a fresh, deeply immersive approach in a superb historic setting, with excellent atmosphere, drama, chaos, variety, roleplaying and NPCs. It was a wild but wonderful ride - taking players through a treasure hunt, debating cultural ethics, an escape room dungeon, a crafting break to make gifts for a mad queen - and a player-instigated coup. The full-time NPCs were truly brilliant; they brought the world to life and kept players engaged throughout with their complex web of grudges and power dynamics, and the gradual unfurling of their personal sins beneath the veneer of courtly propriety."
