Implicit Bias, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Training for Law Enforcement Personnel

The Lab for Applied Social Science Research (LASSR) at the University of Maryland in College Park provides instructional trainings for continuing education of law enforcement. LASSR also conducts research evaluations for upgrading existing programs. LASSR has developed a “Bias Free” training course to educate law enforcement personnel on how to identify and control for implicit biases in the full range of services officers provide. This course is approved and certified by the Maryland State Police Training Commission.

LASSR has provided this training to over 2000 police officers in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. This program has also been showcased on the federal and state levels to policy makers. LASSR has consulted with police departments and government agencies at the federal and state levels including cities such as Little Rock, Indianapolis, St. Louis, and Baltimore. The course has also been delivered to military personnel, teachers, and government workers. This training is evidence-based and includes presentation materials, classroom activities, and post-training assessment. LASSR will provide a Train the Trainer course that will prepare law enforcement personnel to administer this training to fellow officers. At the conclusion of the program, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from the University of Maryland.
