Why do we Neglect the Climate Change Crisis?
"Ugh I swore to myself I would never write a nature poem"
- Tommy Pico, Nature Poem
"Enough of osseous and chickadee and sunflower
and snowshoes, maple and seeds, samara and shoot, [...]"
- Ada Limón, The End of Poetry
Throughout my experience working on this project, I drew a lot of inspiration from two poets we studied in class: Tommy Pico & Ada Limón. The irony of both Nature Poem and The End of Poetry, is simply that climate change is unavoidable. Both poets write about how they wish that did not have to write about our climate crisis, or how they are sick of talking about nature, that it is "enough." In trying to avoid these topics, both Pico and Limón end up centering their poem around it. No matter what we do, how hard we try to forget about climate change, it will always be a thought floating around in the back of our consciousness. Global warming exists and we can push it away or even prolong it, but it will never fully disappear.
What can we do at home to reduce our Carbon Footprint?
This site navigates my personal experience growing plants such as microgreens, herbs, and vegetables in my home over the course of two months.
The main goal of this project was to find small ways in which I can reduce my carbon footprint as well as, adjust my current lifestyle for the better!
