Professor H. Choi earned his Ph.D. from the prestigious Ohio State University in 2007, a milestone that marked the beginning of his academic prowess. In 2008, he joined Keimyung University, where he has been an integral part of the institution's academic landscape. Since his arrival, Prof. Choi has held the position of a dedicated professor in the Department of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, where he has inspired and mentored countless students.
Throughout his illustrious career, Professor Choi has garnered international acclaim, receiving numerous prestigious awards that underscore his excellence in the academic realm. Among his accolades are the A.F. Davis Silver Medal from AWS in 2006, the 2000 Outstanding Scientists award from IBC in 2008 and 2009, and the International Hippocrates Awards for Medical Achievement in 2009.
His contributions extend beyond international recognition, as he has also been honored with several domestic awards. Notable among these are the Gwangwon Prize from KSLP in 2015, as well as the Seobong Prize in 2011 and 2012. Additionally, Prof. Choi has received the Best Paper Award from various esteemed domestic associations, including KWJS, KSMPE, and KSMTE.
Professor Choi's primary research interests revolve around laser material processing for micro-/nano-scale fabrication using femtosecond lasers, as well as laser welding applications with high-power lasers. His expertise in laser energy-based high-power laser welding has found applications in the automotive industry, particularly in the development of lightweight car bodies, secondary batteries, motor cores, and more. In recent years, Prof. Choi has shifted his focus to 3D printing-based hybrid machining, specifically for biomedical applications.
The impact of Prof. Choi's research is evident in his extensive body of work, comprising over 150 papers published in both domestic and international journals and presented at conferences. His commitment to advancing knowledge is further demonstrated through the guidance and mentorship he has provided to over 30 master's and Ph.D. students, who have gone on to make their own significant contributions to the academic and scientific community.
