雷射科學實驗室的研究方向為利用雷射作為光源，作用於分子、奈米材料與固態材料，探索雷射開創的新現象，並將這些新發現拓展到應用科學、材料科學、綠色化學與生醫領域。

實驗室研究內容著重在跨領域的開創性與探索性實驗，不涉及艱深數學計算與理論，特別鼓勵學生動手做實驗與架設獨創的科學儀器，期望雷射科學實驗室在基礎科學與應用科學的研究訓練，能讓學生感受到科學有趣的地方並培育出跨領域的人才。
