Question: Who monitors my child’s education to ensure they are making academic progress?
Answer: LAVA allows the district to interact on a more personal basis with the student. Each student is assigned an advisor (Ms. June Potts) from the district that regularly and frequently monitors and assists students through email, phone and even home visits. This allows the student and family to be a part of the local school community and receive local assistance and privileges. Lehighton Area School District allows the students to come into the building to receive one on one tutoring and extra help and/or attention. In addition online teachers are available for individualized tutoring sessions and do contact students when they see areas of struggle.
In contrast cyber school teachers live somewhere in the state of PA and usually are not close to where the student lives. There is more of a disconnect between the student and teacher/school.
