Students were encourage to think about their interest and try to built a business project that could offer a new way to serve their needs in those areas of their interest.
Sara loves reading, but she is also very social, and likes to share her readings with others. She wanted to find a place where she could do this, and so, she decide to create it herself
Lucas likes events promoting. Some of his relatives work in this sector and he is always wondering why every event is so similar to the other. He wanted to innovate by offering experiences that could be personalized.
Unai practices rugby and he always wonder why sport shops and gyms are just focused on more popular sports like like football, basketball and running. Why not a shop for those practising minor sports? But then he meet Brooklyn Fitboxing, a gym for boxers, and he though that he could mix both ideas, a shop and a gym focused on those practising minor sports
Ada and Clara loves fashion. They are good friends and spend lot of time drawing their own designs. They dream about being able to make her designs real, and so they though maybe other young girls could be interested on same idea.
Angel and Gonzalo did not had any special interest, but they liked eating cookies. So, I challenge them, how could you be remarkable by selling such a commun item as a cookie?
Claudia wants to be a reporter. She very soon decide to promote a site where young reporters could test their skills as well as learning how to improve their articles and interviews.
Samuel and Manuel just liked video games and meeting their friends at the shopping center. They thought how fantastic it could be to join both interest and had a place on which you could enjoy video gaming together with your friends.
Bruno had it clear from the beginning, he wanted to start an online shop to sell hand made wood toys for those fans willing to have a reproduction for a concrete garment from a concrete film or book
During the course we discussed how to apply every of the concepts to every of the projects. This way they had the opportunity to share their ideas and learn from others. Analized pros and cons and decide the best considering their markets and client needs.
It has been amazing observing how they grew up in their capacity to discuss, listen to each other, and think critically on the ideas showed. At the same time, they all lose the initial shy and learn that it is not a question to be right or wrong but being able to think accurate.
They specially enjoyed designing their questionnaires by using google forms, and sharing it with fellows, relatives, and at social media, to get the maximum responses possible. Lucas even got to get responses from people working in companies, as his is a B2B project.
They had to thought about what they want to know, how they could get this answers, and what were they going to do with their responses
Then, they completed their research with desk research, searching for reports about their concrete sectors of activity to learn about it size, segmentation and evolucion.
We had 4 sessions with an expert at IOT from Cisco company. He told us about this technology, how it works and how it could help us to get dates from clients (feelings, senses, behaviour) in order to improve our capacity to offer a better experience to our clients and to personalize our product or services.
Here we studied the case of Brooklyn Fitboxing, a gym that uses IOT technology to improve client experience.
They were all so impressed about the opportunities this technologies offers to companies, that they all decide to include it at their projects!
We had varios opportunities to watch videos and interviews and read articles from Seth Godin and his "purple cow". We learn the importance to be remarkable to get client attention, to develop a product that fits client needs instead of developing a product and then search for clients who fit the product.
We also focused on the question of marketing 1 to 1 or the capacity to personalize products and services to fit every different customer.
They all found how to be remarkable with their projects
This is another idea they loved. We worked on various examples at classroom to identify the real "product" every company is selling. We learn that Amazon is not selling goods, but the commodity and security of buying from home. That Thomas Cook failed by understanding that they sell "packed tours" instead of "travelling".
We watched Bankinter latest video to learn that they are not "selling" money but security, care and meet with those you love, holidays, and the opportunity to make your dreams come true. They were fantastic thinking critically on the cases to understand the real business.
They all applied this concept to their projects
We used Ishikawa spine diagram to analyze causes and consequences, and Scamper techniques to search for innovative ideas. And they worked!
Product, Price, Placement and Promotion, they all developed their strategies understanding the need of internal cohesion and support, focus on client needs. I think they all have been brave and original by developing fantastic ideas.
The market research gave them the 3 or 4 "personas" that mean their minor significant market, those on which they could better impact with their project, those who will allow them to grow. So they started by developing the perfect product/service/price/packaging/promotion for every of their persona,
What can I say? They were quick and impressive by using Canvas tool to design their logos. More over, they have proved their originality and understanding of what a logo and claim should serve for to offer great ideas matching their business, offering a coherent image that well communicates their values and marketing promise. So good!
We studied cases of different companies that started as single companies and grow up to became a franchise as Kentucky Fried Chicken, entrepreneurs that had a brilliant idea, but needed to found a partner to grew up and after some years they finally broke the society like Kukutxumuxu.
And we even had an online meeting with the founder and CEO of Kids Fashion a franchise of hairdresser for kids, who told us how they had the idea, how they start to develop the idea and built their business plan, how they prove the idea by owning the first hairdressers and how they grow as a franchise. Kids listened carefully, placed their questions, and told him about their own ideas.
They had never before used the tool "Genially" (none any other) which offers lots of interactions, videos, audios, images, notes, and graphics, but they have being very good at using it to present their business project. Good for them!
Students did not share the same capacity, interest, or even age and course level. It´s been a multilevel class. They were all capable to share ideas, offer different points of view to the rest of their fellows, discuss every concept in the classroom and talk from their experience. They were all capable to translate these ideas to their projects. But they did it at different paths and complexity.
Some finished even 2 months earlier than others, some needed more guided than others. Those who finish first, where in charge to built up this site from designing the headboard to the text and the questionnaire, explored and find other tools -as one to make a false twitter account- and share them with the rest of the students.
They even helped others in particular moments, in the use of tools as canvas and Genially, offered advice about the logos others made, offered their projects as examples, so the rest of students could better understand what to do. There was also a close mentoring depending on the student, to help them organize their ideas. But every idea and final product came from students themselves. Don´t you think they are amazing? :-)
This site and the questionnaire have been developed by students. They chose the quotes and created the images and the structure. Only the text appearing on the headlands in this page came from the teacher.
