Identification of Learning Objectives

1). Knowledge-based: looking for information and understanding about landmarks of Ukraine and Great Britain, especially about Stonehenge and Rocky Mound.

2). Skills-based:

- personal and social skills: self-knowledge and self-awareness, assessing and understanding one’s own motives with regard to others.

- interactive skills: listening, resisting group pressure, expressing opinions.

- problem-solving skills: creating questionnaires, locating information, making surveys and decisions, using judgment, conflict resolution.

- computer skills: using Word Programme, Power Point and Publisher Programmes, access to Internet.

3). Environment-based: creating a learning environment which provides mutual respect between teacher and student, student and student.

Lesson Content

In this lesson the students will become aware about the landmarks of their region, especially Rocky Mound. This lesson also uses the information about Britain’s Stonehenge. The students will have opportunity to compare two places: Stonehenge in Great Britain and the Rocky Mound in Zaporizhian Region, Ukraine.

Students will do project tasks, make survey, collect and analyze information. At the end of the lesson the students will answer the key question if the Rocky Mound can be Ukrainian Stonehenge. The result of the lesson will be publications about Stonehenge and the Rocky Mound.

Organisation

Lesson Specifics: Country Study, Ukrainian Landmarks.

Target Level: intermediate

Theme: Rocky Mound-the mysterious place.

Time required: 80 minutes.

Materials: chart paper, markers, a set of texts about Stonehenge and Rocky Mound, pictures, photis and slides, assessment forms.

Procedure:

• Choosing the idea of project.

• Making a plan of a project work.

• Uniting in project groups.

• Collecting information for the publication.

Promoting creativity

• Ask the students to compare Rocky Mound and Stonehenge on the following points: place, age, history, origin, predestination.

• Analyzing the information.

• Discussing the material and the key-question of the lesson.

• Choosing the way of presentation the results of project work.

• Uniting into groups according to the way of presentation. Creating the project’s product in small groups.

• Assessment: filling in assessment cards individually and project assessment cards in groups in order to analyze students’ work, the contribution of each member of the project group and the importance of the project in developing language skills and creativity.

• Homework: group-work- creating the leaflet about Rocky Mound for the best leaflet competition.
