As a hub of ongoing learning, libraries are one of the places language learners turn to for resources. Whether the language learner is a school student learning a second language, an immigrant, someone learning a heritage language, someone learning a language for a loved one, or a polyglot learning their fifth language, libraries need to be able to support their needs.
Language Learners in the Library is a blog resource designed to help librarians, library staff, and library science students learn about and provide services to language learners. Through providing these resources, library workers can better understand the information needs and behaviors of language learners and how libraries can best serve these needs. Included in this site is background information, essential vocabulary, historical context, and research on language learners.
This blog will not focus on any one language. Instead, it will look at how various aspects of someone's identity and culture, as well as the area they are in and the language they are learning, impact these information needs. By exploring the broader umbrella of language learning, these resources can be applied or adapted for specific languages or locations.
