Colonel Owens assumed the duties of the Senior Army Instructor for the Landrum High School JROTC Department, August 1, 2017.
He is a native of Spartanburg, S.C. and a Graduate of the Citadel, The Military of S.C. at Charleston. He holds a Master of Science in International Relations from Troy Relations and a graduate of the U.S. Army's Command and General Staff College and the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare School.
Colonel Owens started his career off in the S.C. Army National Guard prior to being commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in Air Defense Artillery.
His command assignments include Commander, Task Force 145 (IOTF) in Iraq; Commander, Alpha Company, 9th PSYOP Battalion, Airborne, in Iraq; Commander Alpha Battery, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment in Operation Sea Signal.
His key staff assignments include Chief, PSYOP and Intelligence, Combat Developments Division, US Army Special Operations Command; Executive Officer to the Chief, Resources, Plans, and Analysis, US Pacific Command; Chief, PSYOP Branch, J3 Operations, US Pacific Command; and S3, 3rd PYSOP Battalion, Airborne.
Colonel Owens is a qualified Army Parachutist with a 43 tactical and night jumps. His awards decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medals, five Meritorious Service Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, the Reserve Forces Commendation Medal, the Army Parachutist Badge, and parachutist badges from the UK, the Netherlands, Greece, Italy, Jordan, and Egypt. He also wears the Special Forces Wartime Service Insignia.
Colonel Owens and his wife have three children, Chase Baker of Wilson, NC, Trevor Owens, currently serving in the Army as an Infantry Officer, a senior at NC State University.
