Juror's Statement: Patricia Constantine, Illustration & Painting, Kendall College of Art & Design Faculty
It was an honor to be asked to jury the Annual LAND Conference Student Exhibition. The work I saw this year was impressive. Powerful compositions going beyond form and challenging the social and political times in our world like Paw and Quarantine in the Photography category. The 3-D category included works that repurposed books and the piece Forgotten Women Composers did that and more, reminding us of female artists that were left out of history. The cardboard masks in the show exhibited so much exceptional craftsmanship and Plague Mask definitely alluded to our current COVID pandemic reminding us that the fragility of life still exists hundreds of years since that mask was worn. The Painting category definitely showed facility with color and media and then pushed us into haunting concepts going beyond technique. I am always inspired as an artist when I get the opportunity to see young artists developing their work not only from practice but from concept.
