In 2007, Donald “Big Doc” Dougherty, Class of 1986, along with other Lancers Football Alumni, started the Lancers Football Alumni (LFA) golf outing to raise money to assist our beloved Lancers Football program. Big Doc was a “larger than life” presence and an integral part of the history and fabric of the Bishop McDevitt community and the Lancers Football Alumni. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia closed Bishop McDevitt High School in 2021 but they could not ever crush the Lancers’ enduring spirit. All who knew Big Doc, recognized his love and enthusiasm for Bishop McDevitt High School, Lancers Football, the players, coaches, teammates, supporters, and friends. With the closing of Bishop McDevitt, we wanted to keep alive the spirit and joy Big Doc brought to all who were fortunate enough to know him. In 2020, the LFA annual golf outing became known as “The Big Doc Classic.”  Our long-time friend, classmate, and teammate, Big Doc earned his heavenly reward on September 10, 2021.
