Lancaster Catholic Youth Tackle Football is for grade school age boys that attend a Catholic school or a Catholic parish in Lancaster County. Players will learn the basic skills of football and compete in the Red Rose Midget Football League

When does the fall tackle football season start?

The fall tackle season usually starts in August.

How long does the fall tackle season run?

Practices for the fall football season start in August. Regular season games run until the end of October. Post-season games are held in the beginning of November for teams that qualify.

What are the age groups for tackle football?

The Lancaster Catholic Youth Football program is a part of the Red Rose Football League, who sets the ages and other parameters of the league, such as weight limits. in 2021, the league agreed to the below ages. These can change, so sign up for our email newsletter to stay up to date on the latest information.

All players must be between the ages of 7 and 14 as of June 1st before the fall season.

  • A team : 10, 11, 12, 13, & 14 year olds

  • B team : 8, 9, 10, 11, & 12 year olds

  • C team : 8, 9, and 10 year olds

  • D team : 7 & 8 year olds

Is there a weight limit for the different levels?

There is not a weight limit for each level, however, the league has what is known as a "striper" rule. This means that players over a certain weight limit must wear a clearly visible stripe on their helmet. These players are usually referred to as "stripers." These players must play an interior lineman position on both offense and defense in a three-point stance. "Stripers" on defense cannot line up outside the offensive tackles. Weight limits for each level, regardless of age, are:

  • A team : 165 lbs

  • B team : 145 lbs

  • C team : 120 lbs

  • D team : 100 lbs

Where are practices held?

The practices at the Lancaster Catholic Stadium complex, 655 Stadium Road, Lancaster, PA 17601

When are practices?

Practices for the 2021 season were held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6-8pm. As the season progresses, and it gets darker earlier, practices will start at 5:45 and end earlier.

Where are home games played?

Home games are held a Lancaster Catholic Stadium located at 655 Stadium Road, Lancaster, PA 17601.

When are games played?

Games are usually played on Sunday afternoon starting about 12:30. On Sundays, the A team usually plays first, followed by the B, C and D teams. Saturday afternoon games usually start around 3pm, and the D team usually plays first, followed by the C, B and A teams.

Are the coaches qualified to coach football?

All head coaches are selected based on their prior coaching experience, as well as playing experience. We also encourage assistant coaches to join and learn how to effectively coach the Crusader system. All coaches must receive their Youth Protection Clearances from the Diocese of Harrisburgh Youth Protection Services Program as well as complete safety training.

Do I need to provide any football equipment?

You will need to purchase a mouth guard, socks and cleats for you player, as well as a "girdle" with a tailbone pad and hip pads. Crusader youth football will provide a fitted helmet, helmet stickers, shoulder pads, practice jersey, practice pants, game jersey, game pants, thigh pads, and knee pads.

How much does this cost?

The 2021 fee was $125. The fee may change from year to year, so be sure to sign up for our email newsletter to ensure you get the latest news and information.

What information do I need to provide in order to register my player?

All players will need to have a birth certificate, player contract, parent consent form, and proof of physical examination by a doctor.
