A youth makerspace to boost community resilience in Sentul
The urban megatrends globalization, urbanization, industrial revolution and climate change have impacts on a city’s community resilience. The COVID-19 pandemic is a pause of reflection, an opportunity to reshape the life, city and environment. The vision of Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan in year 2020-2040 is to be the city for all based on principles: equitable, resilient, sustainable and stimulating growth. (KLSP 2040) Youth participation is one of the essential factors in building a resilient community. In Sentul, there is a lost of the togetherness spirit and community bonding due to gentrification. Lack of public realm for social interaction of youth to be found on site. Hence, the aim is to propose a makerspace as placemaking to revitalize the aging railway town Sentul by engage youth, bringing urban enjoyment and sense of belonging.
