FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: why the change is website address?
A: I used ".online" to start because it was a cheap cost, but there were issues with the "cheap" company I used, so I went with another and bought ".com". If I knew the website would get interest, I would have done it differently from the start.
Q: You mention "skittles" a lot. What are you alluding to?
A: A fun way to talk about partying (cocaine).
Q: What happened to the L'Amour book? Will you write one?
A: About 10 years ago I wrote a chapter for it, but it never came out. Since 1985, people "talked" about doing a book on L'Amour and around 2010, Alex Kayne (DJ I replaced and one of my backups) and Frank White (photographer) were going to collaborate. They announced the book and then had a falling out. Kayne was going to try to publish the book on his own, but it wasn't meant to be.
As far as myself and a book? Sadly, my health prevents me from trying and I saw how hard it was for Alex to get his version done and I don't have it in me.
His book was going to be "a love story" to the L'Amour (as he once described it), with pictures, ticket stubs and various people singing the well-deserved praise of the iconic venue.
Mine would be grittier and more 'sex, drugs and heavy metal', but ...
Q: Why do you constantly include the dates you worked at L'Amour?
A: L'Amour has a history, before and after me. I don't want credit for anything I don't deserve.
Q: I see you add "The Truth" to a lot of your stories, why?
A: I will let long-time employee James Gheida answer that - "I worked with L'Amour throughout their existence and see stories that are bullshit 50% of the time. I never seen anything Chuck wrote that I could call bullshit on"
Q: Why did you disappear for 3 decades and come back?
A: I try not to live in the past, but I was asked to start telling stories by staff, patrons and ownership and truthfully been having a lot of fun. I almost died in 2020 and look at life differently.
Q; Biggest L'Amour regret?
A: When I just quit without discussing it with ownership. I should have left with a long goodbye strategy and end with a big night of bands playing, etc.
Q: There is conflicting info on who actually DJ'd. Can you clarify?
A: There is a lengthy explanation HERE. But during the hard rock/metal years of the 80's it was roughly (in order): Mike Pace (2 years), Alex Kayne (2 years), Chuck Kaye (4 years), Various (1 year), Tony "Bones" Mecha (1 year).
When the club reopened with a much smaller capacity, Mecha was the main DJ and later Kayne spun (from what I was told) All DJ's had strengths and weaknesses, including myself.
Q: Will there be a L'Amour documentary?
A: I don't know, I think the time has passed, but I was almost involved in one in 2022. I was going to be creative director and get a co-producer credit, but there was an issue with two owners that made my idea(s) impossible.
I could have done it without their blessing, but I didn't want to.
Q: Is there L'Amour merchandise and who is in charge of it?
A: About a decade ago, Alex Kayne bought the trademark (with George Parents's permission) and sells through this link.
Q: What happened to the VH song (Sunday Afternoon in the Park) that was used as an intro?
A: That started with DJ Mike Pace and later Alex Kayne. When I got to L'Amour, the owners were sick of hearing it 3x a night, so they asked me if I had anything else in mind.? When I was at L'Amour east (4 months prior to Brooklyn), I used Tramontaine by Foreigner and it worked, but didn't fit Brooklyn, so after a few months I stopped using it and went in "dry". In retro, I should have fought to use it only for the headlining act. It is one of the rare regrets, but ...
