THE L'AMOUR DOCUMENTARY THAT ALMOST HAPPENED - And my involvement
Taken from a Facebook post
-
As some might know, I returned to social media in May of 2022 for a few months.
I was contacted by Frank M. Failace Jr. who helped me run my yearly 60 AYI nights at the club.
Frank was also the eldest son of Frank Sr. who was one of the 4 main owners of L'Amour during the heyday.
Frank and his brother Mike (RIP) were not happy about a lot of things going on regarding the club history (his family was vital to the success, and they were never mentioned).
He said his father was getting up there in age and wanted him to see something that included him.
He showed me some press that was amazing in the fact the writer did ZERO research.
I quit the scene, so I get my contributions might get lost after 3 decades but ...
Frank mentioned someone reached out to him about a docu on the club. He had successful docus in the past but thought L'amour would be interesting.
He did research (unlike others) and knew there was more than the story he was hearing.
Frank said the story of L'Amour cannot be told without me.
I disagree, but I felt I could certainly help.
Frank Jr. asked me to call up his (now 80 something year old Dad) and surprise him after 34 years.
I did and his father said "Thank you for your help in making the best years of my life so special" ...
One of the toughest men I ever met, just got me in the heart.
I AM IM ... let's talk docu baby
But it needs to be done right
So, I signed on to the group and started telling stories and the filmmaker was interested.
He said my storytelling was very cinematic and I told him I had training in that aspect.
We talked for hours and I agreed to do it, only if I control the content direction ... he agreed.
My idea was ...
THE UNLIKELY SUCCESS STORY OF THE WORLDS MOST FAMOUS METAL CLUB
It would focus on how 4 non metalhead owners of a disco in the middle of disco land tripped into owning the biggest metal club in history.
My idea was to get a suite at the Hard Rock in AC and have the 4 owners, myself, Alex and the 2 Failace sons all in a room for the first time in 35 years.
We would film it as people were walking in and re-meeting and get the full interaction.
I would get together with the director ahead of time and cue him in on things to ask that would lead to interesting stories
I wanted the sparks to fly.
I would admit to everything I did ... good and bad and I would try to pull that out of others.
I wanted the true story told ...that is what is interesting to me.
I think honestly is the best tribute.
I recently discussed my fall from metal grace and my depression, drugs and how I felt when I left.
That resonated with people, not just L'Amour patrons, but others that understand humans have faults.
So we have the idea and now it's time to get everyone to agree ...
The director agreed, two owners agreed, two sons agreed, Alex agreed and then ...
We hit a snag
Not my place to tell because it involved personal info, but two owners had issues with it.
Actually, only one because we didn't even get to the other.
That made Alex and one owner feel uncomfortable and I said I didn't need the hassle, so the docu was dead.
We could have still done it and alter the direction, but I didn't want to do it.
I was in and out of the hospital then (like I am now), so I didn't need the stress.
It could have been huge, but like most things connected to that era, it was too much drama.
In the past few weeks, so many have been incredibly welcoming to me.
Due to that, I been offered a few things regarding the history of the club and the 80's metal scene.
People have approached me to help me put together a book about my stories. I don't have the health to self-publish anything, so I will tell the on this site.
I saw the expense and hassle Alex Kayne went through and there is still no book sadly ... I wanted to see it pay off for him.
But if someone wants to make me an offer to publish it? ALL EARS BABY!
Regarding a docu?
I don't see it happening, but you never know.
It's been 4 decades, I get that it might be too late, but we will see.
