Each year the cost to play on teams continues to increase. It is important for parents to understand, that at the high school level, teams are pay to play. This means that team fees are required to cover a majority of costs for each season. Team fees are set in consultation with coaches, Athletic Director and school Administration. It is important for families to kow:
High school sports are much more costly than middle school sports
The school does not cover the entire cost for teams. A majority of team costs at the high school level must be covered by team fees.
Coaches are always open to having help from parents around team fundraising.
Our LAMPAC is always looking for help with fundraising
The team fee only covers the cost of the regular season. Often extra fees will be paid to cover the cost of:
Island Championships
Provincial Championships
It is important for parents to know that Team fees paid by families cover cost of:
Tournament Entry Fees- Teams will participate in tournaments throughout their season. The number of tournaments teams participate in is based on a number of factors including strength of team, player commitment and coach discrepancy.
Team wear- Team wear is based on preference of the team, coaches and is also based on level of play. Senior teams will generally purchase more team wear than Junior teams.
Team Travel costs- Quite often teams will travel to games and tournaments up island or to the mainland. The trips come with a significant cost. Primarily each senior team will travel to the lower mainland at least one weekend a season. These fees cover hotel rooms, ferry cost, transportation rental, gas, etc. Some teams may choose to travel to the lower mainland multiple times in a season.
Teacher TOC cost- there is no funding provided to give teacher coaches days off to travel with teams. This means the cost of the day is covered by team fees.
Med Kit Supplies- Each team is provided a team med kit fully stocked at the beginning of the season. The contents of the med kit are purchased with team fees.
Team equipment replacement- each year new balls and other equipment must be purchased to replace worn and lost equipment.
Jersey Replacement- Each year a small portion of fees goes into replacing uniforms.
So how much should parents be prepared to pay?
Jr. Sports- depending on the sport, team fees at the Jr level will generally range from $250-$1000
Sr. Sports- depending on the sport, team fees will generally range from $250-$1500
