Hi, my name is Laura Nguyen, and I'm a disabled designer. I’ve been passionate about arts and crafts for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I loved watching craft shows and following along to create my own projects. In school, I was always drawing, sketching, and crafting—especially during art assignments—and throughout my elementary years, making art became one of my favorite hobbies.
At the age of nine, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor, which affected my ability to walk, talk, and write. Despite these challenges, I have always maintained a positive and cheerful outlook and strive to treat others with kindness, compassion, and respect. Returning to school after recovery came with many obstacles, but I refused to give up on my passions. Instead, I learned to adapt, persevere, and work around barriers to the best of my abilities.
I am a dedicated and hardworking individual who believes strongly in growth and resilience. During high school, I stayed organized and motivated by creating to-do lists and keeping myself on track, always pushing myself to do my best. While I explored different career paths such as accounting, marketing, and computer science, I ultimately realized that art was my true passion. Creating allows me to express myself, bring joy into my life, and prove that having a disability should never limit one’s dreams. I currently work across visual art, film, graphic design, photography, and mixed media, and I continue to grow and evolve as an artist.
