Some people find that their bladders do not work like this. Instead, the muscles may contract uncontrollably at the wrong time. This is called having an "overactive bladder". If you have one, you may feel very little warning of the need to pass urine (this is called urgency) and you may need to urinate very frequently - in exceptional cases as often as every half hour (this is called frequency).
Very often people find they have the symptoms of both Stress Incontinence and urge incontinence at the same time. Sometimes this is because of the difficulty of distinguishing exactly what is happening. But often the two conditions are actually found together. So "Mixed Incontinence" means no more than what it says, and the best treatment is to combine the treatments for stress and urge incontinence treatment.
Stress incontinence treatment doesn’t actually have anything to do with emotional stress. The term refers to urine leakage during physical activity that results in increased pressure on the abdomen. This pressure need not be much: bending over, laughing, and coughing can cause urine leakage in stress incontinence sufferers. Many people suffer silently, too embarrassed to seek help. There’s good news, however: treatment for urine leakage is readily available.
