1. Welcome and Opening Remarks (09:00 – 09:15)
The organizers (Laura Brandl, Oleksandra (Sasha) Poquet, and Matthias Stadler) will open the session with a brief overview of the workshop goals, the motivation behind theory-informed personalization, and the schedule for the day. Participants will be invited to briefly introduce themselves and their research interests.
2. Keynote: “Modeling Learner Variability in Learning Analytics” (09:15 – 09:45)
Prof. Dr. Michael Sailer, LMU Munich
The keynote will provide a conceptual and empirical overview of how individual differences—such as cognitive, motivational, and metacognitive factors—can be modeled within learning analytics frameworks. The talk will address current challenges and opportunities for connecting theoretical constructs to data-driven personalization, followed by a short Q&A.
3. Lightning Presentations (09:45 – 10:45)
Accepted authors will each present short (5–7 minute) overviews of their extended abstracts or papers. Presentations will highlight:
Theoretical frameworks guiding their work (e.g., self-regulated learning, expectancy–value theory, cognitive load theory).
How individual differences are measured or modeled in learning analytics.
Practical implications for personalized feedback and adaptive systems.
Each presentation will be followed by brief clarifying questions from participants.
4. Break (10:45 – 11:00)
A short coffee and networking break. Participants are encouraged to connect with potential collaborators and exchange ideas informally.
5. Collaborative Design Sprints (11:00 – 11:45)
Participants will work in small, mixed-background groups (4–6 people) to co-design theory-informed personalization strategies. Using provided worksheets and shared digital whiteboards, groups will:
Map theoretical constructs (e.g., motivation, self-regulation, cognitive load) to potential learning analytics indicators.
Identify data sources, ethical considerations, and modeling approaches.
Draft initial ideas for future collaborative projects or research questions.
Facilitators will circulate to support discussion and record emerging insights.
6. Plenary Synthesis and Action Planning (11:45 – 12:30)
All groups reconvene to share their main ideas. The organizers will collect contributions into a shared digital roadmap summarizing:
Key theoretical frameworks and measurable constructs.
Identified research gaps and methodological challenges.
Practical next steps for building theory-informed personalization pipelines.
The session will conclude with an open discussion on opportunities for continued collaboration, including a potential follow-up working group or shared repository of frameworks and tools.
A shared concept map linking learning theories to personalization approaches.
A digital compendium of contributed abstracts and design artifacts.
Strengthened cross-disciplinary network for ongoing collaboration.
