Lakeway, TX
History
Lakeway is a city in Lake Travis and Williamson counties, Texas, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Lake Lakeway is located north of Austin at the junction of U.S. Highway 183 and State Highway 620. Lake Travis. Lakeway was established as a permanent settlement in 1887 by John Landais Jr., who built a homestead along Wharf Creek next to Lake Travis.[3] Lakeway's original name was "Hurst Creek", after the community north of Austin where settlers drew their water.[4] By 1890 Lakeway had 20 families living there, including its namesake founders.[5] In 1893 Lakeway became part of Austin through annexation; it became an independent municipality in July 1974.
