Adopt a Drain

Not all of the trash in Sullivan Lake can be attributed to litter, and much comes in with water runoff. Help keep Sullivan Lake and our waterways clean from debris. Adopt a drain around Sullivan, or your own neighborhood at: https://adopt-a-drain.org/

About the Art

The turtle was crocheted from ~250 Star Tribune and Cub Foods bags. The trash on it was collected from Sullivan Lake Park between March-May 2020 and represents a sampling of what is in the water. How many items can you identify?

About the Artist

Missy Parker is a resident of the Sullivan neighborhood. She loves the lake for all the wildlife watching and has been inspired by how a mutual love of the snapping turtles brings people together to watch and share stories. This project is the result of research on barriers to and influences on pro-environmental behavior and art in a community as the capstone for her Masters in Natural Science and Environmental Education through Hamline University.
