Laguna Year 8 builds students’ capacity for critical thinking, empathy, and agency through interdisciplinary quarterly themes.  By rooting purpose-based STEM and Humanities challenges into student’s work, we create authentic learning opportunities that help students gain confidence in problem-solving and to become positive change-makers in the world.  

Thematic PBL is purpose-based learning. We select dynamic “big ideas” that link with the challenges of our complex world.  Our four quarterly themes do just that: 

• • Identity (Artificial Intelligence, Singularity, and AI Ethics) 

  • Quests (Mission to Mars and the Dilemma of Human Expansion)

  • Transformation (Youth as Agents of Change)

  • Justice (Human Rights in our World, Now and Then)

Connecting STEM + Humanities emphasizes the empathy rooted at the core of design thinking, and it encourages students to innovate solutions to real-world issues.
