Founded in 1953, The Los Angeles Geographical Society is dedicated to the advancement of Geography in the Los Angeles area and in Southern California, through the dissemination of geographical knowledge and perspectives to the general public and all persons interested in Geography. Further, the Society promotes a geographic community by bringing together and supporting students, academic and professional geographers, and other persons interested in Geography.

Although control of the Society's affairs is vested in professionally trained geographers, membership is open to anyone with a sincere interest in the field.
