Suicide Prevention
Suicide is the second highest cause of teen deaths in Kentucky and affects all of us. While there are currently hotlines and text lines for those in crisis, the phone numbers are so long they can discourage people from using them or inhibit them from properly remembering them. Currently, there is a proposed bill in Congress that would create a three digit number for the Suicide Prevention Hotline opposed to its current 1-800 number. This shortened number will allow others to remember it with ease like we do with 911. Fill out this email form to send it to your U.S. Representative.
Donate Plasma to Stop COVID-19
Have you had COVID-19? If so, you could save lives and help others fight the potentially deadly disease. Your plasma cells are able to recognize the coronavirus antigens and attack before the virus is able to infect you again. By donating some of these cells, you help others fight and destroy the antigens. Donating is simple and similar to donating blood. Click here if you are interested.
Talk About Mental Health
As teenagers, most of us have had issues with our mental health along the way. During these extraordinary times, our mental health has never been more important. In our current state of social distance and online school, it is easy for us to feel alone and helpless. Few people are able to deal with the unknown of our present times, but know this: you are not alone. Here you can find others who feel the same as you or talk with someone to make them feel less alone.
Lone Oak
Lone Oak is one of our favorite spots to volunteer. It houses a variety of plants native to Kentucky and gives its surrounding neighborhood a place to escape the constant concrete of downtown Lexington. At this service site we take care of the plants by pulling weeds and eliminating invasive species. We are currently working on labeling all of the plants so plaques can be placed with facts about the plant along with its name. The area serves as an educational and recreational area for people of all ages. Here you can find a list of commonly mistaken plants and what weeds to be pulled. If you have any questions please contact our Service Chair, Ellen Woodward.
