ATTENTION PARENTS AND PLAYERS

Requirements for the Joe Wakeland Memorial Softball Scholarship:

Please read and sign (in front of a notary) that you have acknowledged and understand the following requirements that your softball player must meet to be eligible for the Joe Wakeland Memorial Softball Scholarship upon completing their senior year.

All the following requirements must be met before a scholarship will be awarded:

• Player must have participated the last 2 years in the Lady Indian Softball program at Waxahachie High School

• Parents and/or player(s) must have recorded 10 volunteer hours in the Lady Indians Softball concession stand binder and at least 5 senior, 2 junior, 2 sophomore and 2 freshman season(s). If a player moves in after, they must make up the time missed for a total of 10 hours by the end of the senior season.

• Player must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale on the player’s final high school transcript. Amount awarded will be determined on a tiered scale as follows(non-weighted GPA):

  • 2.0 GPA is eligible for $100

  • 2.3 GPA is eligible for $200

  • 2.5 GPA is eligible for $500

  • 2.8 GPA is eligible for $800

  • 3.0 GPA is eligible for $1000

  • 3.5 GPA is eligible for $1300

• Player must submit:

  • Final high school transcript

  • A completed application (by listed due date)

  • A letter of recommendation by a WISD faculty member

  • A copy of the player’s college enrollment OR schedule

  • A recent individual picture

  • A 200 word essay on “The importance of being a positive role model in your community and how you have demonstrated this behavior.”
