The following graph and word clouds show which words Alicia Audley uses most frequently in the novel. This research has been carried out on Voyant-tools.org, which is a tool that reads and analyzes digital texts, and on Wordclouds.com, a tool for creating word clouds. In order to simplify the search on Voyant, each chapter has been assigned a number. The following table shows the correspondence between the chapters and the numbers on the abscissa.

Interestingly, these word clouds and graph show that robert is one of the words Alicia Audley uses the most. The following graph draws a comparison between robert and harry: clearly, the latter is only mentioned a few times. However, readers who have read the novel know that in the last chapter Alicia is said to be engaged to Sir Harry Towers, despite having had a romantic interest for her cousin Robert Audley up until the very end.

However, her feelings towards her cousin are ambiguous: on the one hand, she tries to make him jealous and draw attention to herself; on the other hand, she calls him stupid, selfish, cold-hearted, as well as a peripatetic patent refrigerator and a lazy, selfish Sybarite, and never misses a chance to lash out at him. It is only towards the end of the novel that Alicia warms to Robert and starts using the affectionate nickname Bob, as the following graph shows.

As figure 2 has demonstrated, papa is another word Alicia uses very frequently. The fact that she calls her father papa rather than father, as the graph below shows, gives away not only her love and affection for Sir Michael Audley, but also the special relationship that exists between them, despite the fact that Sir Michael has remarried and has a tendency to devote himself more to his new wife than to his teenage daughter.
