I really hate having to color over scripture and I want more color than just the pages at the end of each book. Many of them also include some inspiration artwork to color which helps to get my creative juices flowing.
It is ok to go where inspiration takes you but a little bit of planning goes a long way in keeping the Bible and your work looking nice.
Most Bibles have a few blank pages at the end of the book. These are great pages to test different mediums and decide what type will work best for you Bible pages. I find that some pages are just too thin for watercolors and some tear with colored pencils. Just take your time and test our what works best for you.
I love the tabs on Etsy but you can find them on Amazon too. Or if you are feeling extra crafty, you could create your own.
They make finding what you were working on so much easier
It is super important to realize that you will make mistakes. Some will be easily correctable with a piece of colorful washi tape and some will just stay oops that prove you are human and that Jesus loves you inspite of the mistakes you make. Keep journaling.
Seriously, it will be tempting to add a little extra water to your watercolors to lighten them...just don't. I mean unless you like wrinkled paper. Also be careful of super wet markers (like crayola washable). They can bleed through if you aren't careful.
Most liquid mediums will bleed onto the backside of the page you are working on. I have never minded this because it normally inspires my next design but it can be really frustrating if it bleeds through multiple pages. Always use a sheet of wax or white paper behind the page you are working on to help protect the next few pages.
The internet is full of amazing artists and they can do some incredibly detailed works of art. I am not that person yet I still love to color (even if it is toddler-esq sometimes). Be realistic in what you can achieve with your work and don't spend forever searching for a design. Just let your heart guide your hand.
I know there are plenty of things my hand can't create and I definitely don't have the greatest handwriting. Stickers help to solve that problem, as well as my Silhouette. They provide me with a variety of designs to paste into bible without having to attempt drawing them.
Seriously, if you are any type of perfectionist like I am, then take some deep breaths and understand that mistakes will be made and it is going to honestly be okay. The Lord knows we have flaws so there is no pressure.
