Our laboratory is currently accepting graduate students and undergraduate interns for 2026. We welcome applicants with interests in strongly correlated systems, quantum materials, and physics under extreme conditions.
Undergraduate students are always welcome to join and participate in our research.
The matter that makes up the universe does not exist solely in an ideal gas state, but interacts and condenses into condensed matter. In condensed matter with a periodic arrangement, the state of electrons determines the properties of the solid, which we describe in terms of Fermi energy and Coulomb energy. While electron-electron interactions are generally much smaller than the Fermi energy, the Coulomb energy becomes significant depending on the degrees of freedom—spin, charge, lattice, and orbital. Systems in which electron-electron interactions are strong are referred to as strongly correlated electron systems, and our laboratory studies the various quantum phenomena that emerge in such systems.
