In addition to determining the artistic techniques employed by the authors, the study of artworks aims to propose appropriate strategies for conservation and restoration to safeguard these artifacts. For diagnostic purposes, we characterize the protein, lipid, and polymer components that make up supports, binders, pigments, and dyes using minimally invasive protocols.
