Laboratory of Endocrinology and Immune System

Our laboratory is defining the signaling networks that govern mitochondrial stress response in health, aging and metabolic disease. Our research has not only allowed the application of cutting-edge methodologies and scientific approaches, but also contributed to the understanding of how signaling pathways control mitochondrial function and metabolism in humans and rodents. Although our research has addressed basic scientific questions, my medical background promotes the translation of our research into novel therapeutic strategies for complex human diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, sarcopenia/osteoporosis, and cancer. The biomedical value of our outcomes is evaluated by teamwork and collaboration with the bio-venture start-ups and pharmaceutical industry, leading to the promotion of clinical translation.
