The Reading Committee was formed to foster the love of reading. This committee meets to create a variety of literacy experiences. It is the hope of the Reading Committee to use extrinsic motivation to intrinsically motivate student to learn to read and then read to learn. Reading Incentive activities will occur during and after school hours in hopes to include the whole Longfields Elementary Community. If you have any literacy ideas that you are interested in our students’ experiencing or if you would like to read aloud to our scholars, please email Ms. Reed, areed@pgcps.org.

Since we will utilize digital platforms, our students will utilize Lexia (Grades K-3) and i-Ready (4-5). Students are asked to achieve his/her goal. Those hours will be used to determine if a student met his/her reading goal monthly. The weekly goal will be 60 minutes. Therefore, the monthly goal will be 210/240 minutes based on the number of 5 day weeks in the month.
