홍경준 교수는 비교사회정책과 사회복지정책분석, 복지정치를 연구하며 변화하는 사회 속에서 사회정책이 어떤 역할을 해야 하는지를 꾸준히 고민해 온 사회정책 연구자이다. 사회는 끊임없이 변화하지만, 이를 이해하는 정책과 분석의 틀은 종종 과거의 개념에 머물러 있다는 문제의식에서 연구를 출발해 왔다. 특히 최근의 사회 변화 속에서 기존에 당연하게 활용되어 왔던 가구의 개념이 오늘날의 삶을 충분히 설명하지 못한다는 점에 주목하며, 정책 분석의 기준과 가구의 개념을 다시 묻는 연구를 이어오고 있다.
이렇듯 이론에 머무르기보다 대규모 패널자료와 비교자료를 활용한 실증 분석을 통해 정책이 개인과 가구의 일상에 어떤 영향을 남기는지를 살펴보는 데 초점을 둔다. 나아가 사회 변화에 대응하기 위해서는 기존의 사고방식에서 벗어나, 사회적 참여와 새로운 정책적·제도적 개입을 통해 사람들이 마주한 현실의 어려움을 완화할 수 있는 가능성을 탐색하는 것이 중요하다고 본다.
Kyung-Zoon Hong, Ph. D. is a professor of social welfare at Sungkyunkwan University whose scholarship examines how social policy frameworks respond to social change. His research engages with comparative social policy, welfare politics, and policy analysis, focusing on the ways in which long-standing analytical concepts can obscure emerging social realities. In recent work, he has questioned the continued adequacy of conventional household definitions and has explored alternative approaches to understanding income distribution, family relations, and social inequality.
His work is driven by an interest in how policy ideas translate into lived experience. Drawing on large-scale panel data and cross-national comparisons, he investigates how institutional arrangements shape everyday life under conditions of rapid social transformation. Rather than treating policy as a fixed solution, he approaches it as an evolving form of intervention—one that must be reconsidered through social participation and innovative collective practices in order to address the challenges people face in contemporary society.
