While updating the firmware is rarely a bad idea, in this case, he can scan to all the other computers in the building without issue, except for 5 of them. If it were me, I would troubleshoot the 5 computers that aren't working before messing around with stuff on the scanner.

The computers are on and running all day, not hibernating or asleep. I am able to remote desktop/ping/print and do all other network tasks from these 5 machines, the 1 thing I cannot do, is get a connection from the printer to the machines. It randomly will connect successfully, then when they try to scan a few days later (after 4 successful days of scanning) it will say "cannot connect".

This is a troubleshooting guide meant to be used if you've already tried to set up scanning from your Kyocera to your computer and failed. For basic instructions on how to get started, I would recommend to these sites:

Unfortunately there is one issue that I keep running into with Kyocera printers. It has become very difficult to set up scannning to a computer via SMB lately. This is not all Kyocera's fault, these MFC-s still work fine with PC-s running Windows 7, and the problems often stem from "security improvements" and the general disaster that Windows has become. But Kyocera IS partly to blame because they are slow to adapt, and you can still buy Kyoceras with old firmware, and additionally they exacerbate the issue by not providing decent documentation and by "hiding" the software required to effectively troubleshoot the issue from the public. They rely too much on having a network of technicians worldwide - but many users don't want to spend top $ for a technician to fix an old printer or even to install a new one. These things should just work and if they don't, Kyocera should have an up-to-date guide published in a prominent location on the website with effective instructions to solve it as well as all software necessary (including firmware).

Document Capture Pro lets users setup different scanning functions such as 2-sided, blank page removal, searchable PDF or OCR scanning to Word, PowerPoint or Excel file formats and blank page removal.

Advanced Scanning Made Simple - Scanning is one of the most important functions of document workflow and should be easy to use and serve the purposes that your company needs. With Kyocera's PinPoint Scan application, scanning to your PC from your network connected MFPs becomes as easy as scanning from a desktop scanner but with the added speed and versatility Kyocera MFPs provide. With a simple two step installation process, one download to the MFP and one to your PC, network scanning couldn't be easier.

So why did Apple make this change and bring on the Mac/FTP-pocalypse? One theory is that as historically people used scan-to-folder as files were too big to attach to emails, the advent of cloud document solutions such as Google Drive and Drop Box have rendered the technology obselete as now you can upload a document to the cloud and then send a link.

If you need a Miracle Max to bring your Mac-FTP capability back to life for your business, reach out to your IT/ network support team. They should be able to least help hook you up with a solution that will work with Google Drive or DropBox which should meet your scanning needs for large and small files and work the various with copier and scanner manufacturers.
