I am Assistant Professor of Measurement and Quantitative Methods at Michigan State University. I received my Ph.D. in Educational Psychology (Quantitative Methods) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
My research interests are in educational and psychological measurement. Within this broad domain, my work focuses on issues related to test security, item response theory, and computerized adaptive testing. I have authored over 20 publications (including peer-reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings, and encyclopedia articles) and am the lead developer and maintainer of the R package aberrance. My work has been published in top-tier measurement journals such as the Journal of Educational and Behavioral Statistics, Journal of Educational Measurement, and Psychometrika, and has been recognized by multiple awards, including the NCME Brenda H. Loyd Outstanding Dissertation Award (2024), the AERA Division D Outstanding Dissertation Award (2025), and the NCME Jason Millman Promising Measurement Scholar Award (2025).
