I'm on a quest to create biological molecules that empower human longevity. My motivations are epitomized by the beautiful quote from Richard Feynman: "What I cannot create, I do not understand". Currently, I focus on creating proteins, the tiny biological molecules that move life. I utilize design as a means to push on the existing knowledge of protein molecules and uncover the principles that make them work. Importantly, by creating a tight feedback loop between hypothesis generation and design outcomes, we can improve our success rate, enabling exponential growth.

Key in this feedback loop is capturing protein design metrics, and utilizing accurate, scalable, and accountable biochemical data collection. With careful experimentation, these ideas meld the power of scientific inquiry with human creativity to enable biochemical engineering. With every failure is the opportunity to ask, how can we model proteins better? How accurate is our understanding of the physicochemical forces that drive atomic motions? As science begins to reveal these unknowns, I believe rationally designed biological machines will become a common mechanism for solving societal problems, just as life has done for billions of years.

I am passionate about advancing projects that have potentially wide societal impact, especially ideas that have been overlooked or yet imagined. Key in this pursuit is both enabling technologies which accelerate research, while on the other hand, challenging roadblocks and supporting practices towards progress. Whether by development of genetic tools, protein materials, or increasing public engagement in the sciences, it is my hope to spur basic research endeavors and accelerate technological progress.

To fuel my work, I enjoy crafting plant based meals, musing about our universe over a beer, listening to music, reading, and practically anything outside. I don't always explore, but when I do, I prefer to travel at high speeds by snowboard or bicycle, go rock climbing, hiking, backpacking, and running.
