The Murder of Kyle McMurtrey

On June 18, 2020, a body was found behind the Sunnyland AMC Classic Cinemas. The body was identified as Kyle McMurtrey, last seen alive the day before. Washington Police Chief Mike McCoy, handling his first murder case since taking the job 2 ½ years prior, was very tight-lipped on the details in order to maintain the integrity of the case. His death was attributed to blunt force trauma to the back of his head.

McMurtrey lived on Argo Street with his grandfather, and walked everywhere as he had no driver’s license. He worked for McMahon’s Restaurant in Washington Plaza and was last seen walking along Washington Road on June 17.

The case remains unsolved.
